First home

“I was 18 and I bought a house north of Bristol in the UK that the real estate agency I was working for used to use to show first-home buyers and make them think every other house was fantastic.

“It was in atrocious condition, filthy dirty. Everybody was rejecting it and the owner kept reducing the price to the point it was so much cheaper than other homes.

“I made a silly low offer and he took it.

“I did it up with my dad and sold it for 40 per cent more than I paid a year later.”

Mr Winter’s first home was north of Bristol in the UK.

Current home

“It was only finished 12 months ago and it was a bit of a move for our family because we decided to move beachside and to leave suburbia.

“We’re on a 400sq m block less than 80 metres from the beach in a suburb on the Gold Coast so we have glimpses of the ocean and coffee shops at the end of the street.

“I would probably call it a modern coastal home.”

Dream home

“My dream house is never a constant, it’s evolved. I always set myself attainable dreams.

“I’ve never dreamt of living in a 16 bedroom house in the south of France. So I’ve kind of fulfilled it in a lot of ways.

“We’ve consistently bought two types – a renovator or brand new.

“Right now we’re in one we’ve just built, but the next project is never far away.”

The 15th season of Selling Houses Australia is is currently casting Victorian homeowners.
